Why the format matters
The idea is a simple one. A pupil who has met “Read the text and choose the correct answer” once a year since the first grade does not meet it for the first time at seventeen, with a university place at stake. By then the instructions, the timing and the expectations are familiar, and attention goes where it belongs: to the English.
Exam Trainer was founded in the United Kingdom in 2002 by teachers and examination-preparation specialists. It is held every year in schools in more than ten countries and is delivered locally by accredited national partners, who handle registration, papers, marking and awards.
For teachers
The olympiad takes half a lesson and asks for no preparation beyond the ordinary syllabus. In return the school receives an external benchmark for every class and an analysis of results that shows, part by part, where pupils are strong and where they are not. For parents
A child who takes part meets the format of a real examination while nothing depends on the result. Every participant receives a diploma; the best in each grade receive diplomas of the first, second and third degree. Entry is through the school only. Why it is worth taking part.
